Things that have changed since the iPhone

I got an iPhone on Halloween. I remember because it was the day my life changed. I’ve bought gadgets in the past, but none has affected (or is it effected) my life in such a dramatic way. It’s been good and it’s been a little bad. I’ve been chastised for playing around with it too much and I’ve received a lot of attention because it does something cool. Here’s something I was thinking about today. You can be the judge if they are good or bad. It’s just some “funny” stuff I was thinking about.

  1. I want to use every screen as a touch screen. I was using Michelle’s phone the other day and trying to touch the screen to select something. I did it several times before realizing what I was doing.
  2. I never forget a joke (even if I do forget it, it’s usually one google away).
  3. I know the answer to everything (nearly). I can maybe find the answer to everything. MAYBE.
  4. My facebook usage has skyrocketed. It’s a little creepy (I know) that when you post on my wall or comment on my status, I almost instantly know and reply if appropriate. Or if you comment on here, I know almost immediately. Sorry. It’s just what happens.
  5. I talk to Noel more.
  6. I have noticed that I mess around with it when I shouldn’t (e.g. church, parties/get-togethers, work, while driving). Now, I leave it in the truck at church. I have to take it to parties and work because it’s a camera and stuff happens there I want to document. And I’m trying to stop doing it while driving. I certainly won’t mess with it while in heavy traffic, but if I’m on an empty straight road. Yeah, I’ll look at it.
  7. I have something (else) to do in the bathroom.
  8. I always have a camera. My camera stopped working months ago on my old Razr.

I could probably add more. That’s just what I can think of right now.  BTW, I thought of this post while driving and checking my email.

My Day After Thanksgiving

I came to work today. No one else did. Well, there are couple guys down the hall. They’re weird though. Kind of like me. They’re always the first ones to get here and the last ones to leave.

It was kind of spooky this morning. It was dark outside. There were no lights on in the building except for the few entryway lights and exit signs. I left them off. Didn’t want anyone to know I was here. Although, I have been listening to music loud enough to be slightly heard in the hallway if someone was walking by, but there’s no one walking by, kind of like a tree falling in the woods. Anyway, that was a clue I’m here and I exist.

I felt pretty dumb for being here this morning. I didn’t have anyone’s phone number. So, I called 5 people trying to get ahold of the man that might have an answer for me. He didn’t tell me what I wanted to hear, which was, “have a good day at home.” He said that today was a regular work day and unless I was on leave I had to stay. Well, I don’t have enough leave to be wasting it. I’m here, might as well stay. Another thing I thought was that I didn’t get a memo or something.

The thought crossed my mind that I could leave and not a soul would know, but as they say, “Character is what you do when no one is looking.” But the bottom line is, there’s not a lot for me to do here alone. So, here’s what I’ve done today in no particular order.

  • Created a webpage for a joke
  • Fixed a small problem with the arcGIS server
  • Shopped online for Christmas presents
  • Updated this webpage by adding descriptions to yesterday’s pictures
  • Looked at yesterday’s pictures 47 times
  • Wrote this post
  • Drank coffee
  • Took a little nap and had some really really weird dreams
  • Went to Quiktrip, but wasn’t even gone long enough for my screensaver to lock my computer
  • Texted with Michelle
  • Called my mom and wished I was there to have Thanksgiving with them
  • Listened to Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin
  • Considered playing a practical joke on my coworkers, but I’ve it made a rule to not mess with them because I don’t want to be messed with
  • Wondered “does anyone read my blog and, if so, are they ’into it’ enough to register and comment?”
  • Stared at nothing in particular
  • Bought that thing Jeremy was telling us about last night
  • Updated my facebook status 2 times with the iPhone
  • Read some training slides for arcIMS
  • fiddled around with the server
  • Played spider solitaire
  • Stared at nothing in particular … again
